Charleston Crouch

“I’m not sure what people think has changed about me since George Floyd’s murder went viral”

Charleston’s story is about who he is versus who people see him to be. Following George Floyd’s death was an outpouring of rage. There was also a wave of guilt and well-wishing. Charleston contemplates nuanced anger; what do you do when people use you to ease a heavy conscious?

Charleston’s story is one that’s particularly important. He is a close friend and a producer of this series. I couldn’t have been more honored to have him as a partner.

Courtney Jones

An emotional live-stream of the protests.

Courtney was the first person to come forward with her story. After a weekend of protesting, she sat down with us (virtually) and debriefed on the complex set of emotions that came from her day’s walk. Courtney displayed a serious amount of bravery in her decision to kick off the series.

(TRIGGER WARNING - RACIAL SLURS)

Can pride fend off scars? Can it protect our children?

Calisha Wright’s piece explores the pride she feels as a black woman and the first time someone finds a weakness in its armor. She bravely expresses her experience with assault and offers a letter, a hope, for her children’s future.
